About Myall Charolais
Myall Charolais is located 42km from Roma in south-west
Queensland. The stud was founded in 1971 with the
purchase of over 200 Waverly Brahman and selected Santa Gertrudis females, using imported French sires, including
Clovis, Apollon, Salpoiou, Salamon and Kersnowe Festival,
in an extensive AI programme over 5 years, until quality
Australian sires became available. Since the purchase of "Buffel Park",
Dirranbandi in 2001 Myall Charolais has been in expansion mode. Buffel Park will
soon be the home of 650 stud Charolais and Charbray females. Our three
properties at Roma will be used for growing and sale preparation of the progeny
from Buffel Park. The newest acquisition of "Wattlebee", Garah adding a reliable
fodder growing property which will allow us to feed our sale cattle when
required on a high hay ration. This is very important to the
sustainability of the stud. As bull buyers ourselves we know the
importance of having cattle in a functional state. Over the past few years we
have noticed that most studs are too focused on feeding their bulls to make them
look great and have forgotten their bulls need to go into adverse conditions.
This is why we pride ourselves on having sale cattle good enough to see the
quality but not overfed to lead to disappointment when they are asked to
perform. Our focus over the past few years and looking forward is to
improve our herd's doing ability, fertility, softness, marbling, tenderness and
all other traits required by todays more informed cattleman. As seedstock
producers we are always open for inspections not just of our bulls but also our
females. We strongly believe Myall has one of the most maternal and
fertile cow herds in the country. With a three month joining and culling if no
result detected. This and culling for higher than average birth weights, hair
type, udder faults and temperament gives Myall a solid foundation to move
forward into the most exciting era seen for the Charolais breed to date.
